Sitting at a desk for long periods of time can be dangerous to a person’s health. According to some health experts, heart disease can develop. Sitting too long can cause a decrease in blood flow, which can cause clogged arteries. Studies have proven that people who sit more often than they move are likely to develop heart disease.

Another health problem that can occur from sitting for an extended amount of time is poor leg circulation. Blood flow is slowed to the legs when a person sits for a long time. Signs of poor circulation include swollen ankles and varicose veins. Blood clots can also develop, which can lead to serious health problems.

Colon cancer can also be a result of sitting for a long period of time. Clinical studies have shown that the risk of developing various cancers such as colon or breast rises. There is not a clear-cut answer as to why the risk is increases for these and other cancers, but it may be linked to the fact that the lack of movement allows dangerous oxidants and free radicals to damage and kill cells.

When people sit too long, their abdominal muscles can become weak and flabby. Posture is also affected by a weak abdomen. The neck, back and spine become slumped due to pressure on the lower back, which can cause soreness and pain. In addition, the spine can also become inflexible due to prolonged inactivity.

Brain function can also be slowed. The lack of oxygen and fresh blood circulating through the brain can cause the brain to become foggy, which makes it so important for people to stand while they work.

These and other health conditions such as disk damage, strained neck, osteoporosis, inflexible hips and the risk of death all points to the health benefits of using a standing instead of sitting at a desk while at work.

Advantages of a standing desk include the reduction of the risk of heart disease and certain cancers such as breast and colon. A standing desk can also help improve posture, strengthen the abdominal muscles and help enhance blood circulation.

In addition, a standing desk can also help increase a person’s lifespan by lessening the chances of developing life threatening diseases such as heart disease and cancer. A standing desk can increase energy, sharpen the mind, improve posture and reduce soreness in the body.

In short, a standing desk is a great way to improve overall health.
